The Treatment Helpline

Is the behaviour of a loved one causing you substantial concern? Is substance abuse getting out of control? Are you frustrated by your inability to communicate with your loved one about a noticeable problem? An Intervention may help.

Interventions can happen in a few different ways, and can be as simple as preparing friends and family to consolidate from a grounded position. We can prepare families and friends how to communicate their concerns with a consistent message of support, while maintaining strong, helpful boundaries.

What is an Intervention Treatment?

Interventions are structured techniques bringing together people in crisis and their families, friends or colleagues, so that solutions can be found. The goals of an Intervention are not limited to convincing a person that they need treatment; but also to help build comforting strategies for anyone concerned, so everyone can learn to respond more effectively to a frustrating or aversive situation.

Why perform an Intervention

  • To repair fading relationships – when unhealthy relationships with drug and/or alcohol use spirals into dysfunction, families/friends and colleagues are often the first to experience confusion, frustration and fear. If the problem remains untreated, things get worse. An intervention is often the first step taken to break the continuing cycle of despair and to prevent any further harm.

  • To improve communication – honest communication can be difficult to achieve at the best of times, but in a crisis, heightened emotions make it more difficult to communicate effectively. Structured interventions help to re-establish healthy communication and help provide direction.

  • To provide support and promote hope – Interventions specialists are trained to not only provide support for people in crisis but also to those around them. Where destructive behaviours have damaged patience, composure and friendship, a structured intervention can help revive hope for a brighter future.
